Wet feet, mud, spills, saltwater splash, live bait, and fish guts will take their toll on your carpet. Regular preventative maintenance will extend the life of your carpet while keeping it looking great for longer! After all, the time, money, and effort to install your carpet is worth keeping it clean. Here are a few tips that you need to know in order to take the best care of your carpet.
Cleaning Oil and Gas from Boat Carpet
Oil and gas must not be allowed to stay on the carpet. It's best if removed within 24 hours.
Use a surfactant, soap, or dishwashing detergent to emulsify and remove the oil. The fibers are tolerant, but over time oil and gas will soften the marine backing polymer and the adhesive used to glue the carpet.
Hard to Remove Stains
When tough ground in stains won't budge, consider trying one of the spot removers on the market. Some of these are quite strong and not all are compatible. If you have some extra scrap carpet, try a spot test there to test for compatibility. If not, test in an inconspicuous area, or on a scrap piece of carpet.
Vacuum Your Boat Carpet
Regular vacuuming will reduce the sand and sediment in your boat between larger cleaning jobs and help to extend your carpet’s life. Sand and dirt can cause abrasion, wear out the fibers and possibly the adhesive. Vacuum frequently to keep your boat carpet looking great!
Deep Cleaning Your Boat Carpet
Depending on how often you use your boat, you'll want to take some time to deep clean your boat. This can get time-consuming but it's well worth the effort. If you use your boat a lot during boating season, doing a deep clean once a month will keep your passengers safe and your boat looking great.
